This metamorphic rock starts as sandstone, limestone, basalt rocks and more. Over the years, lava from nearby volcanoes has overheats the rock it moves through and is a nicely banded rock when it cools. It is often used in construction for tiling, paving, etc. "They consist of andalusite, garnet, chlorite, etc... Hornfels often include epidote, diopside, actinolite, or wollastonite and sometimes Titanite, and tremolite". (Science Direct)
Hornfels is a stone of motivation and creativity, or how to be more creative to simplify things in our lives so we have more time and energy for the things we actually want to be doing, thus leading to motivation. It is said that this stone also has the ability to encourage that we approach obstacles or difficult situations with extra grace and understanding, which can help us to more easily process and empathize for the situation to find a common ground and/or move on with ease.
In South Africa, they call this mineral "ring stones" for its resemblance to the sound of a ringing a bell when this stone is struck. They resonate so much, that in 19th century England this rock was used to make lithopones.
