It is one of the oldest gemstones, dating back as far as 1500 BC. Looking to Ancient Egypt, they were mining peridot for jewelry around the Red Sea for over 3,500 years! 

Peridot is a gemmy variety of the mineral olivine, and gets it color high amounts of iron in the stone, also making it slightly magnetic if you have a big enough loose stone and a strong magnet.
