A stunning boulder opal from Koroit, Australia paired with a pleochroic raw tanzanite. 

Boulder opals are created over millennia, when microscopic silica flows through water, and this with the water gets trapped in layers of sedimentary rock. You can basically think of it as ancient, crystallized water. Although on the contrary, opal does not have a crystalline structure, which is also why it is so soft. As October's birthstone, the stunning "play of colors" scales how irresistibly captivating these gems are and metaphysically are said to be a prism or mirror for energy. 

This gem shows us what we're putting out into the world, either amplifying our positivity and optimism, or leading us to see for ourselves where adjustments can be made. 

Boulder Opals are tougher than most, but proper care is still recommended. Most opals are a 3 on the Moh's scale of hardness, but due to the boulder matrix of Australian opals, this gives boulder opals a hardness of 7 which is the durability of turquoise.

Tanzanite is named after its primary origin, Tanzania. The mine area is at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro and as of 2022, there is a rumor that export has now been banned from Tanzania because the mines are thought to be fully depleted. This being said, cherish any tanzanite you have! It's truly an investment of a gem and worth every penny.

Pleochroism in tanzanite means that depending on which face of the crystal you look at, it changes color. This gem changes from blue on the front and back, then turns purple on the sides. Tanzanite is one of the few gems that has this display in the raw stone.
