Aquamarine is the blue variety of the beryl family, sharing its mineralogy with emerald, morganite, and heliodor. A well loved gem for its soft blue color, thanks to traces of iron within the crystalline structure. There are a variety of known deposits in the United States, including most notably - Colorado, followed by Maine, California, and Idaho. Aside from the U.S., aquamarine is found around the world in Brazil, Vietnam, Russia, as well as various parts of Africa and Asia. 

Folklore of this gem dates back to Ancient Greek & Roman civilizations, where it was believed to be a stone of protection for sailors, keeping them safe from harsh storms and also purifying their water. It's a stone for mermaids, as this gem embodies the beauty and mystery of the sea.
